Clear Diagram Design Depicting the Future of Hokkaido GX
Creating Diagrams Depicting the Future of Hokkaido GX
We were asked to create diagrams explaining Hokkaido’s GX (Green Transformation) initiatives from the perspective of “how current actions connect to the future,” in a way that even high school and university students could easily understand. The diagrams were designed as a large newspaper-format layout (15 columns) and distributed at GX-related events. Since this was a diagram created from scratch, we first decided on the illustration style and overall visual tone. While learning about the GX initiatives themselves, we conducted interviews with the client to determine how to depict the future state. Organizing the knowledge and translating it into design was not easy, but we focused on breaking down complex information and presenting it in a way that could be easily understood by a wide audience.

Design That Communicates Clarity and Hope
In creating the diagrams, we prioritized making the content understandable even for those encountering GX for the first time, holding multiple meetings with the client to refine the approach. A key focus was not just explaining GX with text, but using illustrations to naturally convey the processes and future vision. We also based the design on a positive atmosphere, emphasizing that "the future is bright," aiming for a result that would inspire hope in viewers. As a result, the client expressed their satisfaction, saying, "It has become a very easy-to-understand diagram."
