A Brochure with Two Faces That Unravels the Worldview
Bold Design Approach Expressing Duality
For the production of the brochure for the revival of “Shinigami Babies”, we aimed to reconstruct it from a completely new perspective while retaining the essence of the previous design. The work’s core features the darkness of the “Shinigami” and the brightness of a story that brings warmth to the audience’s hearts. We expressed these opposing elements using contrasting colors of black and orange. By adopting a special gatefold design, the expressions of the two comedians dramatically change when the cover is opened from the center. This structure visually incorporates the story’s duality and surprises as a clever design gimmick. The act of opening the brochure itself is designed to serve as an entry point into the world of “Shinigami Babies.”
Unifying the Worldview and Highlighting the Individuality of Each of the Three Works
For this brochure, in addition to “Shinigami Babies”, we were also responsible for the graphic production of the concurrently staged works “Angel Meeting” and “Tamagoza.” While respecting the unique worlds of each piece, we provided art direction that maintained a sense of cohesion across the series. For “Shinigami Babies”, we built on the appeal of the previous title logo while refreshing the font and layout to give it a more polished impression. To convey the comedic nature of the stage, we incorporated halftone-like textures to visually represent the witty exchanges of the comedians. Throughout the brochure, we carefully illustrated the stage’s overall impression and key scenes symbolically, ensuring that holding the brochure immediately heightens anticipation for the works.
