A New Approach to Visualizing Information Science Through Illustration

We developed the promotional visual identity for the Department of Information Science within the newly established Faculty of Information Science at Hokkaido University of Science. After extensive discussions, the team chose to feature artwork by Marina, an illustrator and artist based in Sapporo. By depicting Hokkaido’s natural landscapes and ecosystems, the visual communicates that information science is a field that contributes to solving regional challenges and is, in essence, a discipline created for Hokkaido. The result is a new academic identity that departs from conventional information technology imagery and presents a fresh perspective on information science.
